Business is the process of making a profit by providing proucts or services which people want to result of the drive to make a profit, firms create wealth which is then distributed within the economy.
For example, a Pottery company creates wealth by transforming raw clay into cups, saucers and other tableware bought throughout the world.
In the process, 700 staff are employed directly, others are employed indirectly (suppliers and distributors for instance) and local and national government receive over £2 million a year in taxes.
The more initiative, invention and care taken by the staff the more products they can sell and the customers are prepared to pay for the product. So design and development, marketing, people and production are all key factors in wealth creation.
